Social Movements and Federation Building Program

This is an introductory program that enables initial interactions between PT and prospective allies at the Federation of the urban poor will usually precede expected requests from the grassroots in pursuance to PT’s strategic objective no.1 on Strengthen the capacity of MWW and social movements into national and importantly large actors to influence county and national policies for the benefit of the Urban Poor.

These interventions entail the ongoing formation and animation of social movements to organize on their own issues working through ritual of bonding among movement members such as

  • Savings,

  • Tactic sessions /Negotiations

  • Vertical and horizontal exchange visits.

The programme response programs civic and rights education around the stabbing issues of struggle for survival or the struggle around specific campaigns in a rapid response to rights violations or other emergencies that pose immediate threat to people’s life as well as deliberate pro-active programs that deal with existing conditions that violate rights and threaten life and the well-being of people in the urban poor residence.

Strategies:

  •  Support Muugano Wa Wanavijiji and other social movements to create and consolidate their internal governance structures
  • County based social movements and coalitions which can organize around ESCR broad based rural and urban poor participation
  •  Accompany social movements in their framing and organizing for social rights and political advocacy;
  • Consolidate the strategic partnerships between social movements towards the realization of social economic rights.

Program Milestones

The programme response programs civic and rights education around the stabbing issues of struggle for survival or the struggle around specific campaigns in a rapid response to rights violations or other emergencies that pose immediate threat to people’s life as well as deliberate pro-active programs that deal with existing conditions that violate rights and threaten life and the well-being of people in the urban poor residents . It is designed and implemented in response to requests made by various grassroots groups and people’s organizations consistent with the pillar of PT’s vision 2020 on social movements with the following Outcomes:
